Head and Neck Cancer Support Network Trust
Our Peer Support Charter
At the Head and Neck Cancer Support Network Trust, we believe that no one should face head and neck cancer alone.
Our peer support communities bring together people affected by head and neck cancer so they can share experiences, learn from one another, and find encouragement.
Three Core Values guide us in out meetings with others:
Whakatairanga — Uplifting
Living with head and neck cancer can be physically and emotionally challenging.
Our community exists to encourage and uplift one another, recognising the strength it takes to navigate treatment, recovery, and survivorship.
We support each other with kindness, empathy, and understanding.
Hono — Connection
Connection is at the heart of our support network.
We create spaces where people affected by head and neck cancer can meet others who understand their experiences.
Through these connections, people can find reassurance, friendship, and a sense of belonging.
Tautoko — Support
Peer support offers practical and emotional support through shared lived experience.
Members of our community:
• Listen with empathy
• Share experiences respectfully
• Encourage one another during difficult times
Peer support is not medical advice, but it can help people feel less alone and more confident in navigating their cancer journey.
Our Commitment to Safe and Inclusive Communities
We aim to create peer support spaces that are:
• Welcoming and respectful
• Inclusive of diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Supportive of whānau involvement
• Safe for people to share their experiences
Confidentiality and mutual respect are essential to maintaining trust within our community.
Walking the Journey Together
Head and neck cancer affects many aspects of life, including speech, eating, appearance, relationships, and emotional wellbeing.
Through connection and shared experience, our community helps people navigate these challenges together.
Through whakatairanga, hono, and tautoko, we walk this journey side by side.
